And finally to end today’s blog , a non-event : the deafening silence that we can pick from Eritrea . Since the confused semi-coup of January 27th , a heavy layer of calm has fallen back on the country . Does it mean that everything is now fine in our very own Pyongyang ? Or does it just mean that the stolid silence of old dictators is more efficient than the childish jabber of very young ones ? I can feel in my bones the pain of the Eritrean people , whose incredible courage and determination had enabled them to win a titanic war – and then lose their own victory for lack of political foresight . How long will this silence last ? It is not the silence of peace , it is the silence of death.
